Ahhh, Dollywood! It may have only opened in 1986, but the park quickly became a true American classic. If you are (or you’d like to be!) one of the approximately 3 million people who visit Dollywood each year, here are a couple insights about the park to help you plan your trip.
Dollywood Has More Entertainment than Ever
The Smoky Mountains have a theme park that is uniquely their own, and Dollywood isn’t afraid to celebrate its Appalachian heritage. This year, Dollywood has added another concert venue to the park, and it’s part of their plan to invest more in entertainment this summer than they ever have before. They opened the season with the 3-week Spring Mix music series, and are hosting the Festival of Nations and Summer Celebration events this summer. Some cabins in Pigeon Forge can even see Dollywood’s nightly summer fireworks show from their front porches!
Dollywood’s Also a Waterpark
Next to Dollywood, you’ll find Dollywood’s Splash Country, a water park with a full day’s worth of water fun, and then some. Featuring tons of waterslides, a wave pool, geysers, waterfalls, a lazy river, a river rafting ride, a water roller coaster, and lots of restaurants and hangout spaces, Splash Country is a full day of entertainment all on its own, and a perfect way to get the kids in your life out and active on a day where it’s too hot to be comfortable otherwise.
Tickets to Splash Country can be purchased separately or combined with tickets to Dollywood for a discount. Families may find that Pigeon Forge cabins with a washer/dryer are especially helpful for a vacation that includes Splash Country, since you don’t have to worry about packing up wet swimsuits for the trip home.
